Life, Money and Gratitude #4 Gratitude is Good For You
"If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough" -Meister Eckhart
Wanna be happy, get grateful
It's easy to forget all the good things in your life. If you watch the news or spend any time on social media, you're filled with all the problems and craziness of the world, you get distracted to all the wonder and goodness that surrounds you. Here is a short list of things to be thankful for.
You woke up and took a breath of air, someone wasn't that lucky and passed away last night.
You opened your eyes and can see, a blind person doesn't have that luxury.
You're able to stretch your arms and wiggle your toes, not everyone can.
You slept on a bed under a roof, many of the worlds population don't.
You turned an electric light switch on, a miracle of technology.
You used a bathroom with running water and drainage, a modern wonder that few give a second thought to.
Maybe your blessed to have something to eat.
A window that protects you from the weather but allows you to see outside.
Companionship, a family member or a friend you can smile at and say hi to.
Being able to go for a walk.
The possibilities of a new day.
The list goes on and on, remember how blessed you are and say Thank You for what you already have.
I'm going to ask you to do something, I want you to thank someone, it doesn't matter who or for what, just do it. It could be the garbage man, a custodian, your parents, a relative, a friend, a coworker, your neighbor, anyone, put a smile on your face and say "thank you". You have the miracle of life, let the world know you appreciate it, gratitude is good for you.
Sometimes life sucks
Life tends to throw circumstances at you that you didn't want or expect and frankly, it sucks. I'm currently dealing with a family issue that involves broken relationships, money, and legal stuff, it's all rather unpleasant. Which family members aren't talking to each other, who owes money to who, and aging parents are the current topics. Everyone has crap they have to deal with. If you were given the opportunity to put your problems in a pile with all the other problems that people have, and you got to pick which ones you'd keep, I don't know about you, but I would dive head first into that pile of manure and dig out my own problems. That's when you realize and become grateful for your challenges. Remember that God only gives you stuff you can handle, and when you figure it out, and you will, looking back you'll see that it made you stronger. Another reason to be grateful.
Gratitude is good for you
In the vast myriad of things you can watch or listen to it's nice to find a little pick me up type of video. The John Templeton Foundation helps you discover the benefits of having an attitude of gratitude and how to practice being more grateful everyday. Check out the link below.
Until next time, God Bless and be well.
