Life, Money and Gratitude #3 How To Find A Job
"if you can solve many of the problems the boss has right now, you are hired" Kevin Kelly
Solve the problem or be the problem
Many of us are trying to solve our own problems, we need to pay our bills, our housing cost, insurance, food and all the other things we deal with in our day to day lives. Likewise a boss is looking to solve a problem that they have, many times they solve their problem by hiring someone. The disconnect is that many people go looking for a job trying to solve their problem, not the boss' problem. Kevin Kelly in his video, 68 Pieces of Unsolicited Advice for Young People, put it this way "If you desperately need a job, you are just another problem for a boss, but if you can solve many of the problems the boss has right now, you are hired. To be hired, think like your boss." To have an edge when your looking for a job, be the person who comes with the best solution for the challenge the company has, couple that with a great work ethic and your in.
You're Hired
One of the jobs I had when I was younger was driving a livery car, before Uber and Lyft, there were livery cars. My interview for this particular job was pretty funny, I called the gentleman who owned the company and he asked me to come in for an interview, I agreed to meet him. He ran his three car livery service from his home so I met him there. The interview took place over his kitchen table while his wife cooked in the background the interview went like this, he looked me over and asked one question, "Do you have a clean drivers license ?" I said, "Yes", he said "You're Hired". This guy had had a simple problem, he was looking for someone with a pulse and a clean drivers license, I fit the bill, so he hired me. Small problems have small solutions, large problems need bigger solutions, the larger the problem you can handle the more demand you will be in.
